Tupac Shakur was a product of his artistic training and political upbringing. As an activist for his comm𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆, he produced some of the greatest creative protest and social commentary hip-hop has ever seen. This shirt was inspired by the February 1994 Vibe Magazine Cover Exclusive: Is Tupac Crazy or Just Misunderstood by Kevin Powell.
The Mental Health stigma in Black communities especially amongst Black Men are formed through experience, cultural traditions, and formal education.
Racism, discrimination, and inequity affect a person’s psychological well-being and often times people are labelled crazy just because they are not understood or simply because they are different. We don't have the privilege of being able to express all of our emotions, especially anger. We spend our lives managing and suppressing our feelings in order to avoid being seen as difficult, aggressive or threatening to others. This shirt is meant to continue the conversation and spark the thought in our communities to reconsider the way mental health is treated, perceived, and thought about.
